Let’s Talk About Sex Baby, Let’s Talk About STDs

By Kate

‘Tis the season to be merry! My holidays are just around the corner, and I have decided to split my three weeks vacation between Phuket and the Philippines. I cannot wait! If you too are lucky enough to be holidaying/living in Phuket, then you’ll know just how many ridiculously good-looking people there are on that tiny island. When I lived in Phuket I would often drive along Muay Thai Road and pretty much get whip-lash from shamelessly staring at the eye-candy (yes, there are THAT many hot people).

Anyway, with all this summer lovin’ in mind, I thought I would take a hot second to talk about sexual health; because you know what they say,  “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the…” ok, wrong saying; but you know what I mean!

According the the Phuket Gazette, Phuket has the highest HIV/AIDS infection rates out of the 76 provinces. Also,  while condoms help significantly reduce the chances of you catching an STI, it doesn’t mean you are 100% risk-free. If you are exposed to an infected area, there is a chance you may get a little more than you bargained for.

With this in mind, if you want to get tested I highly recommend Naborn Lab, based in Chalong, ironically a road or two up from Muay Thai Road/whip-lash-road. Although it doesn’t look like much from the outside, I promise it’s 100 % legit!

I was brought up catholic; which means I suffer from “Catholic-Guilt-Syndrome” aka. feel guilty- even when you’re innocent. I thought I would share where getting STD tests fell on my “This shit is awkward” scale.

STD AWKWARDNESS CHART

I was helped by a woman who spoke fluent English and had a gentle demeanor. I was in and out within minutes, and had my results emailed to me the following morning (I had the whole shebang done). Depending on what kind of test you get done, the results can be ready immediately, or within a few hours. You can also either collect your results in person; or have them emailed to you, with the option of calling the doctor with any questions.

This is the “promotion set” price list on Naborn’s website at the moment:
