Best Skincare Products in Korea

Before I came to Korea in 2013 my understanding of winter was pretty limited to, “12 degrees = freezing and you should not leave your house”. So you just can imagine the shock I got when it was -12 degrees and I still had to ride my bike to school! Frost bite was imminent, my skin was flaky and dry; and I looked alarmingly like a White Walker by January.

Not this year. This year, I have come prepared.

About a month ago I asked my co-teacher, Rucy, what Korean products she recommended (because her skin is flawless). With a list of name brands in hand, and crucial creams, serums and essences explained; I headed off in search of products that would keep my skin looking and feeling great throughout winter.

It’s now a month and a half later, and I am happy to report that I found some gems! Snow is forecast for next week (YAY!), and despite it being dry and cold, my skin still looks and feels amazing! So here are the products that I most liked, and would recommend trying out.

Honey Black Sugar Scrub – The Face Shop

I use this twice a week. It’s really lovely and gentle, and packed with moisture.

Real Art Deep Cleansing Oil – Etude House

Cleansing oil is amazing. At first I was skeptical, “You want me to wash my face with oil? Yeah-no.” However, I got given a sample of this cleansing oil and have been using over the past month- I”l admit, I’m hooked! If you can, I would definitely try it out!

Toner

I use a French toner, La Roche-Posay, Effaclar toner, which I am really happy with; but If you are looking for a new toner, and want a Korean brand, I would go with something from Innisfree.

Eco Science Serum – Innisfree

Serum is a highly concentrated light-weight moisturizer that penetrates deep into your skin giving it a much needed boost. This is the first time I’ve used essence, and I love it; I will definitely carry on using it! Give your skin a few minutes to absorb the serum before moving on to the next step.

Eco Science Wrinkle Spot Essence- Innisfree

IMG_2434I am obsessed.

This stuff is a miracle cream, gently dab some cream onto your “problem areas” using your ring finger. Wait at least 5 minutes for your skin to absorb it.

Age Defense, firming cream – Etude House

This is so lovely and thick! I use it as a night cream and love it!

Eco Science Cream- Innisfree

I use this as a day cream, and I’ll be honest, it’s one of my favourite creams! I first discovered this towards the end of my first winter, and cursed that I hadn’t found it sooner. My skin always feels silky and smooth afterward I use it, and it smells heavenly!

Green Tea Sleeping Pack – Innisfree

IMG_2431A sleeping pack is a water based pack that you put on just before going to sleep. I’m not sure how necessary it is, but I love how it feels and smells.

Face masks

IMG_2437The face masks in Korea are to die for! I always have a stash at home, and whenever I feel a little tired I pop on a face-mask and all is well again.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is like the youngest child in a family, it can do no wrong.I use it for EVERYTHING. I keep a small tub in my desk at school, and whenever I feel my skin, lips or hands drying out I rub some on. My nails particular take a beating during winter, they crack and peel and just look awful, I have been rubbing coconut oil onto them every day and I can’t believe what I big difference it has made.
